Relay for Life 2011

Before I even met David I had done the Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, but after losing my Grandma, going through David’s battle, and watching my best friend lose her sweet mom it has held a lot more meaning for us. We made a commitment to try to support the Relay in some way every year possible after David was well enough to participate. A few years ago it fell in a moment of health for David and we were able to participate with my school’s team. Then, David was sick again, I was 9 mos pregnant and too big to walk, and last year David had to work so Eden and I just went for a little bit.

This year, we went bright and early so that David could participate in the Survivor’s Lap and while he was getting the Survivor’s breakfast I bumped into one of the girls that was working a booth that had a Rock Wall. Since I met David this is something he has told me he wanted to do! After his first round of surgeries and our wedding we went on a 3 day cruise. His whole purpose when we booked the trip was to climb the rock wall on that ship. Being that his leg didn’t work properly and looked somewhat mangled, they wouldn’t let him! So, I gave the girl the 3rd degree and she ASSURED me that David could come over and climb the wall. Within 15 minutes he had signed a waiver, strapped on the harnesses and was ready to climb!

I wish I had taken a picture of the crowd of people that culminated around the rock wall and were cheering him on the entire time he climbed (which took a little bit). When he made it to the top- lots of people were in tears (me included). People said- “he is such an inspiration” and while I agree with that- I think what got to me was that this was one dream that came true for him. His smile was priceless and it was really neat to have that be a part of our Relay for Life.

Mud Run 2011

One day when David came home from work he told me about the Mach 1 Mud Run that he saw on the internet. He told me that he really wanted to try to complete it and understanding that it would be challenging emotionally and physically, I thought I would tag along. So- he signed us up, we read online what to wear to have the least trouble with the mud, and we geared up for the event. Here are some of the photos from the event (the quality isn’t terrific because they are taken with a waterproof disposable camera by his partner in crime- a very muddy me!)

I wish I could explain to you all how really nice it is to see my man put his mind to something and just kick it’s booty! There are times that I know things have been tough for him (like the mornings when I hear him cursing from inside his closet at his leg for not going on correctly), but we have talked many times about the fact that it is what it is and he has decided that the prosthetic leg isn’t going to stop him! This Mud Run was that philosophy in action and it was a lot of fun doing this together. Anyone want to join us for another one in September?? Smile

Catch-up Part 3

In honor of my reflecting on all of the really great things we have had going on the past few months, I decided to upload a playlist that reminds me of some of my own fun summer memories… be sure to push play and see what these songs remind you of???

Mother’s Day was special this year too- David wanted to plan something to show me how much he loves me and how much he appreciates being a family. So, we went down to California Adventure to take advantage of our passes and have a nice lunch! Normally we are penny pinchers and pack our own food to avoid the Disney prices. But- today was special! When we entered the park, they were giving out carnations for moms, which Eden LOVED! Then we headed over to one of our favorite attractions- Disney Junior Live! We watched a few of the little shows, rode some rides in Bug’s Life & then went to lunch at the Mexican Food restaurant in the park. I just LOVE spending time together as a family and can’t tell you how much I appreciate that David bought us those passes for Christmas. It really is a gift of memories for our family. Thanks honey!

We spent Memorial Day with our friends The Compton’s & Zinn’s. The kids had a great time playing in the water and eating Patriotic Jello Parfaits, while the adults visited and played a bean bag game that Mikey was determined to win at all costs! It was really fun!

To celebrate David’s Birthday, we decided to go to Disneyland! I know- you’re shocked right?? We were lucky enough to take Eden on the new Ariel ride at California Adventure and they also re-opened the petting zoo, so it ended up being another great family day at Disney (and it wasn’t even crowded- Happy Birthday!)

See! We have just been having a great time together! Hope you and your families are all doing well!
